Discuss the intricate details of microbiology here!| How often do you clean your ears with cotton buds/cotton swabs? | | This actually just came to my mind last night when i was cleaning my ear after bathing. I actually clean my ear every night after bathing and i think i have already used up a lot of cotton buds because i throw one in the trash every night. And just thinking of it i use up around 30 pieces of cotton buds in a month and around 360 pieces in a year. So i wondered if i am using too much cotton buds as compared to what the usual person uses. How often do you clean your ears with cotton buds/cotton swabs?
| | cotton buds.. | | How many times do you clean your ears using cotton buds? Did you know that it is not a good habit if we clean our ears everyday?I've read that cleaning our ears as often as everyday using cotton buds remove the natural wax of our ears. But there are instances that we cannot help but use buds to clean it. Sometimes when it feel icthy we use buds. Even after bath we tend to clean our ears with cotton buds. Sigh! even me I cannot refrain from cleaning my ears almost every after bath. | |
| | Q-tips.....Do you use them? | | Do you use Q-tips or any other brand of the same product? If so what do you use them for? I use Q-tips for makeup applications, removeing excess nail polish, cleaning my belly button, and what most people use them for, cleaning my ears. What I find interesting is that, although the most common use for Q-tips, to my knowledge, is ear cleaning...if you read the box it tells you not to insert the Q-tip into your ear. What is up with that? Isn't that the main purspose for Q-tips? | |
| | Q-TIPS...Flimsy or sturdy?! | | What kind of q-tips do you use? I only ask this because I can't stand the flimsy plastic ones because I feel like there's not enough cushion on the tip and I'm going to poke my eardrum out! I have to use the sturdier ones with extra cushion on them! I just came back from Las Vegas and we stayed at a 5 star hotel that provided many things to us, one of which being flimsy plastic q-tips! I thought that since it was a 5-star hotel and we paid good money for this suite shouldn't they at least provide good sturdy q-tips if any to us!!?? I mean it was nice of them to even give us those but if you're going to give something like that I think they should invest a little money and go for the good stuff! | |
| | Ahh, Modern Technology... | | There are so many things today that try to offer a modern twist. One thing I have found is companies offering products that vibrate. (Get your mind out of the gutter...) I have seen vibrating toothbrushes, vibrating razors, and a few other things. Do these really help? I have tried both and didn't care for them. Maybe this is because I am not used to using this type of device with a vibrating feature, who knows? What will they have vibrate for us next? Vibrating cotton swabs? Vibrating toilet paper? Vibrating cologne?? Do you use these new vibrating products? If so, do you like them? If not, would you be interested in trying them, for their extra cost? | |
| | Dogs | | Veterinarians have found that adding one teaspoon to quart of drinking water helps keep your pet free of fleas and ticks. It's also effective ear rinse to keep it clean, just dip cotton swabs and gently clean inside the ear. | |
| | Do you like using swabs? | | I know many doctors say it is bad for your ears, but do you use cotton swabs/Q-tips to clean them?
I do. I clean them everyday with swabs, usually after my shower. I simply cannot stand having water or wax in my ears!
| | Who would you say is lacking? | | UC Berkely or it's students?

BERKELEY, Calif. -- UC Berkeley is adding something a little different this year in its welcome package -- cotton swabs for a DNA sample. In the past, incoming freshman and transfer students have received a rather typical welcome book from the College of Letters and Science's "On the Same Page" program, but this year the students will be asked for more. The students will be asked to voluntarily submit a DNA sample. The cotton swabs will come with two bar code labels. One label will be put on the DNA sample and the other is kept for the students own records. The confidential process is being overseen by Jasper Rine, a campus professor of Genetics and Development Biology, who says the test results will help students make decisions about their diet and lifestyle.Once the DNA sample is sent in and tested, it will show the student’s ability to tolerate alcohol, absorb folic acid and metabolize lactose. The results of the test will be put in a secure online database where students will be able to retrieve their results by using their bar code.Rine hopes that this will excite students to be...
| | Ant in my ear!!!!!!!!! | | The most dreadful thing that ever awaken me in the middle of the night - an ant in my ear!I panicked as I heard it walking inside, it wasn't painful but the thought that something was inside my ear made me just do everything to take it off. Water, oil, cotton swabs, etc. I truly had panicked and worst, I may have killed it inside because I can't get anything out - or think I haven't. I don't know.Anyhow, what was the worst thing that happened to you (apart from a phonecall that a relative has died or is in the hospital of course - let's not be that grim), that you could consider the worst thing that woke you up? | |
| | What do YOU call it? | | I find it funny that so many trademarked brand names have taken over as the common name for an item. Here are some examples of what i mean...Do you say "honey, can you remember to buy someQ-Tips when you are at the store?" or do ask them to pick up some cotton swabs?Do you offer someone aKleenex when they sneeze, or do you hand them a facial tissue?if you cut your finger, do you go to the medicine cabinet for aBand-Aid, or do you reach for a box od adhesive strips? Is this somethign you have ever thought about? I know in the souther united states, when you are visiting a friend, they will ask you if you want aCoke, and if you say yes, you might get a Pepsi, a Dr. Pepper, a Sprite, or whatever they have in their fridge at the time.So how about you, do you use the actual names of products, or is the name brand so associated with the product to you that you use it instead? Can anyone think of anymore products like this? | |
